My month with SBS June 2014
Whoever said time flies wasn’t joking. Here we are at the end of June and the year seems to be racing away. I’ve certainly been enjoying my fishing though so no complaints there. This month, as is always the case, I’ve been targeting a number of species. Variety is the spice of life is very true for me and my angling.
As an all-rounder I target all fish and I’ve enjoyed myself lately while focusing on roach. They may not grow anywhere near as big as carp, and therefore don’t have that cult-like status, but in my book a big roach is still a magnificent creature. I fished with sweetcorn that had been soaked in SBS tutti frutti bait dip and put out hemp that had been left to stand in corn steep liquor.
I ended up with a number of good fish and as a fan of bait dips and glugs, have no doubt that the SBS liquids made all the difference. Many anglers think it’s just about giving your hook-bait a boost, but as I often prove in my fishing, it’s more than that. Flavouring loose offerings, seeds, meat, pellets – the list is endless. Get yourself a tub and you’ll be amazed at its uses.
This month I also did a few sessions on a huge reservoir after bream. Yes, you heard right, I set out to catch bream. Now, for many carp anglers you won’t understand my thinking, but remember I am a genuine all-rounder! This time round I fished with corn poppers. If you follow my blog on a regular basis then you’ll know I am a big fan of these. They definitely work as well.
I caught my bream this time round on the traditional sweetcorn look-alikes, but there are a whole range of options in the range, both colour and flavour. If I could only fish with one SBS bait for the rest of my life then it would have to be the corn shaped popper boilie, that’s how highly I rate them.
It’s always a good idea to test your rigs in the margins, especially when fishing pop-ups. It gives you an idea of how everything will sit on the bed of the lake once you have cast out. If there’s any experimenting to do then that’s the place to carry it out, rather than just chuck-it-and-chance-it.
With the river season opening the middle of June in England it was great to get back after barbel. The fish below was taken on a 20mm squid and octopus from the new Flumino range. I wanted to have a go with this to show that you don’t have to break the bank to catch quality fish. At just £4.99 that is a really cheap bait.
But, as you’d expect from SBS, cheap price doesn’t mean cheap quality. Finally, you can keep up-to-date with my angling adventures on a weekly basis via my website. There is a weekly blog featuring a written piece and a video, and as I fish exclusively with SBS baits, then there are plenty of products featured. New Brand Identity at SBS
The well-known yellow-black color scheme will of course remain, but at the same time, you will find a new font and a new logo symbolizing carp fishing on SBS platforms and product packaging, which better expresses the company's profile and identity. -
Spring through my eyes
Last season I was less active in my fishing, so I decided to start this year as quickly as possible, in early spring. I wanted to trick as many carp as possible, of course take pictures and release them back to their home as soon as possible. -
